Ms Blackbird's Self Care Social Prescribing Arts Workshops

Back in October, I was awarded a bursary to attend the Carer's UK AGM and Carer's Summit in Canary Wharf.
I made good use of the time to visit The Wellcome Collection, where there is some health related work in the exhibitions Being Human and Misbehaving Bodies.

In Misbehaving Bodies, the use of phototherapy to diarise experiences of a medical condition, in this case breast cancer, shows that comics and zines are also a really good way for people suffering with mental health, and carers, to share their experiences.

Illustration and care
More recently, I went on a respite break to Leeds, and spent some time at Leeds Art Gallery. This is from Susan Hiller's Memorial. It interested me when thinking about the workshops at John Dawber Gardens, and the narrative story found about a patient of the old asylum. Who remembers carers?

A trig-comic event
The last of the current workshops is coming up on Friday 29th November - tickets are available here.
There will be more workshops planned for 2020, especially some for carers funded by Carer's First, and some new workshops at Wellingore Hall, hopefully!
